Martha Mable Hornberger

Martha Mable Hornberger, 93, of Clarion, PA, passed away Friday, September 13, 2013 at Clarview Nursing Home.

She was born February 22, 1920 in Steubenville, Jefferson Co., Ohio, the daughter Daniel Webster and Bessie (Donaldson) Whitmore.

Martha married her husband, Pete, January 12, 1939. They lived in Tidal where she did what she loved most, cared for her family. She raised six wonderful children. During her free time, Martha loved to sew, often making clothes for her children. She also loved working in her garden and square dancing with her husband. She was an active member of the Tidal Presbyterian Church as well as a member of the Rimersburg VFW Auxiliary. Friends and family will always remember Martha as being a selfless, caring person who put the needs of her family before her own.

She will be deeply missed by her sons, Frederick A. Hornberger, of Poconos, PA, and Daniel E. Hornberger and fiance, Melinda, of Clarion; daughters, Carole Maney, of Clearfield, Patty Johnston, of Distant, and Kathy Yori, of Emlenton; 39 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Bernard "Pete" Hornberger; son, Richard Hornberger; daughter, Nancy Lee Hornberger; brothers, James and John Whitmore; sisters, Dorothy Weckerly and Grace Shirey; half- brother, Howard Whitmore; and half- sisters, Ruth Cochran, Florence Courson, Evelyn Gump and Ruby Gump.

Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Monday, September 16, 2013, at the Bauer-Hillis Funeral Home, 758 Main St., Rimersburg.

Additional visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Tidal Union Cemetery, Tidal, PA.
