Rev. Thoburn R. R. Stull

Rev. Thoburn R. R. "Preach" Stull, age 95, of 206 Poplar Street, Dayton, PA, passed away Saturday, November 9, 2013.

He was born August 31, 1918 in Leechburg, PA, the son of Edward Stull and Mary (Barnett) Stull.

Over the years Rev. Stull served as Pastor of Dayton Glade Run Presbyterian Church of Wayne Twp., Armstrong Co., PA from 1943 to 1971; the Bailey Avenue Presbyterian Church of Mt. Washington, Pittsburgh, PA from 1971 to 1978; Cape May Presbyterian Church in New Jersey from 1979 to 1987 and he continued to be the Kiskiminetas Presbytery supply Pastor from 1987 through 2010. He was also in charge of the Sunday evening worship services at the Dayton Fair for many years.

He was a member of the Kiskiminetas Presbytery and a past moderator for Kittanning and Kiskiminetas Presbytery. He was on the board of directors of the Presbyterian Homes of Pennsylvania and President of the former Kittanning Presbyterian Home when it was built and additionally was involved as part of the original management.

Along with his wife, as they worked as a team, he assisted in many community fund raising events and activities, especially at the Marshall House of Dayton and the Heart and Cancer fund drives.

In 1936 he graduated from Leechburg High School. He received a Bachelor's Degree in Ministerial Studies from Thiel College, a Master of Divinity Degree in 1943 from Western Theological Seminary and was also the Class President. He also attended and studied History at Pitt University, Music at the University of Michigan and in 1968 to 1969 he studied Modern Theology at Harvard University.

He enjoyed carpentry work and was a painter. He often did work for family, friends, and his community. In 1961 he designed and worked on the remodeling project of the interior for the Dayton Glade Run Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by one sister, Beryl Lois Hunt of Silver Springs, MD; niece, Jami Bjellos, and great-niece, Blair Bjellos both of Rockville, MD.

He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Eleanor M. (Whitacre) Stull whom he married December 27, 1944 and who died July 23, 2005; two brothers, Edward H. Stull and Daryl Leroy Stull; and a sister, Beverly Cook.

Family and friends will be received at the Dayton Glade Run Presbyterian Church Academy, 2534 Dayton Smicksburg Road, Dayton, PA 16222, on Monday, November 11, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at the Dayton Glade Run Presbyterian Church, at 11 AM with the Rev. Dr. Wayne A. Yost officiating,

Burial will follow in the Glade Run Presbyterian Cemetery, Dayton, PA.
