Joan L. Zahorchak

Joan L. Zahorchak, 81, of Shelocta, PA, formerly of North Braddock, PA, died Monday, November 18, 2013, at Kittanning Care Center.

She was born August 16, 1932 in Braddock, PA, the daughter of Thomas Costello, Sr. and Pauline (Rentler) Costello.

Joan was a resident of the Shelocta area since 1976, formerly living in North Braddock. She found joy in being a homemaker and caring for her family, and was loved by all who knew her. Joan was a wonderful cook and baker who was known for her delicious nut rolls, cream puffs and cupcakes, just to name a few. She was a member of St. Thomas More University Parish in Indiana and in her spare time enjoyed playing cards. Joan loved being in the company of others and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her generous, kind spirit will forever be remembered by her family and friends.

Her memory will be cherished by her loving husband of 65 years, William G. Zahorchak, whom she married August 28, 1948; sons, William "Flub" Zahorchak and wife, Debbie, of Hagerstown, MD, Robert Zahorchak and wife, Diane, of Adamstown, MD, Gary Zahorchak and wife, Susan, of New Castle, Brit Zahorchak and wife, Heather, of Shelocta, and Donald Zahorchak and wife, Denise, of Shelocta; daughters, Paulette Kendall and husband, Herb, of Wilkinsburg, and Rhonda Klein and husband, William Jr., of New Stanton; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and sister, Nora Petrovay, of North Braddock.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Thomas Costello, Jr.; and sisters, Helen Sabella, Anna Sipe and Alice Zigarovich.

Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Clark Chapel of the Bauer Funeral Home, 238 South Main St., Elderton, PA.

Additional visitation will be held from 12 PM until the time of the blessing service at 1 PM on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at the funeral home, with Father Michael Sikon as celebrant.

Burial will be in Elderton Cemetery, Elderton, Pennsylvania.
