Joseph E. Heckman

Joseph E. Heckman, 79, of Girty, PA, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2015 at his home.

He was born June 3, 1936, in Girty, the son of Andrew S. and Julia Pearl (Short) Heckman.

Joe lived on his family's farm all his life and married Veda J. Clark on February 18, 1956. He worked for the United Mine Workers and the Operating Engineers. Most recently, he was a Burrell Township Supervisor for over ten years. Joe was a member of Covenant Way Church of Indiana, PA, and volunteered for the Angel Food Ministry at the church. He also belonged to the Full Gospel Businessmen's Fellowship. Joe spent most of his free time working on the family farm, fixing equipment, making hay, and operating the equipment. Those who knew him will never forget his wonderful sense of humor and how he always enjoyed a good practical joke. Joe will be best remembered for the love he had for his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 59 years, Veda J. Heckman; son, Casey E. Heckman and wife, Mia of near Girty; daughters, Leora J. Rankin and husband, Gary, of Atwood, Helen J. Thompson and husband, Ronald, of Rochester Mills, and Cindy L. Heinle and husband, Raymond, of near Girty; grandchildren and their spouses, Joey Rankin, Jerry Rankin, JoAnna White, Casey Heckman, Desiree Heckman, Gabriel Heckman, Paige Thomas, Tucker Heckman, Callie Heinle, Brier Thompson, Brodey Thompson, Camber Heinle, and Jocilyn Thompson; great-grandchildren, Machaela, Delbert, Gavin, Lydia, Aviya, Charlotte, Kelly Joe, Hannah and Bella; brothers, Harold E. Heckman and wife, Kay, of Shelocta, and Harry Robert Heckman and wife, Jean, of near Girty; sister, Louise LaFace, of Parumph, NV; and aunt, Mae Short, of Florida.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William Heckman; sister, Ethel Locher; and granddaughter, Dana Marie Rankin, in 1976.

Relatives and friends may visit from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at the Clark Chapel of the Bauer Funeral Home, Inc., 238 S. Main Street, Elderton, PA.

Additional visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Friday, June 26, 2015 at the funeral home, with Pastor Bob Dunsmore officiating.

Burial will be in Mt. Union Lutheran Cemetery, Shelocta, Pennsylvania.

Contributions may be made in Joseph's honor to a mission project of one's choice.
