Oma L. Smith

Oma L. Smith, 87, of Kittanning, PA, died Friday, July 17, 2015 at Butler Memorial Hospital.

She was born March 23, 1928 in Dayton, PA to Delvin and Ruby (Kunselman) Powell.

Oma lived in Kittanning most of her life and graduated from Kittanning High School. She worked for a number of years as a bus driver for Clepper's Bus Company, where she was a pioneer in the industry as one of the first women drivers. Caring for others was her life's calling, and she fulfilled that by working as a nurse's aide at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital. Oma was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where she belonged to the Bon Vora class.

She loved spending time with her family and also enjoyed walking her dog, Ralphie. Knitting, crocheting and gardening were some of her favorite hobbies and she was known for being an excellent baker. Oma will be remembered for being a hard worker and will be greatly missed.

Her memory will be cherished by her sons, Larry J. Smith and wife, Kathleen, of North Carolina, and David W. Smith and wife, Janice, of Kittanning; grandchildren, Matthew D. Smith, Larry J. Smith, II and wife, Barb, and Erika Smith and husband, Howard; great-grandchildren, Jake, Emily, Danielle, Devon and Blake Smith, and Taylor, Samantha, Nathan and Lauren Smith; and sister, Janice Sears and husband, Richard, of Richmond, IN.

Oma was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, George Matthew Smith, who passed away March 28, 1990; brother, George Powell; and dog, Ralphie.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Monday, July 20, 2015 at Bauer Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 515 N. McKean St., Kittanning.

Additional visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Carl A. Johnson officiating.

Entombment will be at Lawn Haven Burial Estates, Worthington, Pennsylvania.
