Eleanor M. Walter

Eleanor M. Walter, 76, of Templeton, PA, died Friday, May 13, 2016 at her brother's home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on March 12, 1940 in Kittanning, PA, the daughter of Paul M. and H. Pearl (Hankey) Walter.

Eleanor lived in the area all of her life and graduated from Dayton High School in 1958. She attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania and received her Bachelor's degree in Education in 1962, and later returned to IUP to earn her Master's degree in Education. Eleanor was a math teacher in the Armstrong County School District for almost 36 years and loved interacting with her students while teaching college prep math, calculus and trigonometry. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling and visited most areas of the world. She was also a life-long member of both the Pennsylvania State Education Association and the Armstrong Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees, and was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma sorority.

Outside of the classroom, Eleanor stayed busy as well. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Kittanning and served as the Past Matron of the Eastern Star, Kittanning Chapter #277. Her hobbies included working on needlepoint and Sudoku and crossword puzzles. Her family will always remember her generous spirit and amazing Christmas fudge. Eleanor's family and friends will also remember her giving and caring spirit, and she will be greatly missed.

Left to cherish her memory are her brothers, Harold Walter and wife, Rose, of Templeton, Paul Walter and wife, Judy, of Kittanning, and John A. Walter and wife, Donna, of Medina, OH; nephews, Mark Walter and fiancee, Amy Ward, of Kittanning, and John Walter and wife, Tracey, of Springfield, VA; nieces, Annette Dunn and husband. Rick, of Templeton, Paula Walter, of Kittanning, Noelle Walter and husband, David Wilson, of Medina, OH, Kelly Quinnell and husband, Curt, of Kittanning, and Carolle Phuvasitkul and husband, Steven, of Cranford, NJ; and nine great nieces and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at Bauer Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc, 515 N. McKean Street, Kittanning, where an Eastern Star service will take place at 7 PM.

Additional visitation will be held from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Wade Berkey officiating.

Burial will be in Cochran Cemetery, Templeton, PA.
