Harold Dean Ellenberger, 82, of Chicora, PA, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at his home.

He was born February 2, 1934 in Chicora, the son of Floyd and Ruth (Goldinger) Ellenberger.

Harold was a lifetime resident of Chicora and graduated from Karns City High School. He honorably served in the US Army as a combat engineer and later worked as a mill operator at Castle Rubber. Harold enjoyed hunting - mostly from his kitchen window - and also liked watching deer and other wildlife. His hobbies included listening to 1950s music and working on oil wells, and he loved tractors and watching things grow including his own garden. He was also a member of Butler County Life and the Chicora United Methodist Church, and attended Petrolia Presbyterian Church. Harold worked hard to raise his three children by himself and will be best remembered for being a devoted father. He always made everyone he came in contact with smile for one reason or another.

His memory will be cherished by his sons, Gary D. Ellenberger and wife, Christina, of Chicora, and David H. Ellenberger and wife, Sara, of Karns City; daughter, Diane L. Shubert and husband, Todd, of Dayton, OH; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and sister, Mary Lawson, of Saxonburg.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dale Ellenberger; and sister, Lois Barnhart.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Sunday, July 24, 2016 at Bauer-Hillis Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. 102 Argyle Street, Petrolia, PA.

Additional visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Monday, July 25, 2016 at the Petrolia Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 107 S. Argyle Street, Petrolia, with the Rev. David Perry officiating.

Burial will be at St. John's Reformed Church Cemetery, Chicora, PA.
