Betty Jane Silvis

Betty Jane Silvis, 87, of Spring Church, PA, passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born August 22, 1929 in Apollo, PA, the daughter of Murry and Dorothy (Porter) Miller.

Betty was a lifelong resident of the area and was a member of St. Jacob United Church of Christ. She was a selfless person who dedicated her life to raising her family and putting others' needs above her own. Betty belonged to the Rural Valley Helping Hands group and in her free time loved being outdoors and working on crafts. She will be best remembered for her caring spirit and delicious home cooking.

Her memory will be cherished by her sons, Jack R. Silvis and wife, Charold, of Wise, VA, L. Daryl Silvis and wife, Billie, of Creekside, and Kevin D. Silvis and wife, Mary Katherine, of Avonmore; grandchildren, Trudy Bryant, Eric Silvis and wife, Nikki, and Angela Meyer and husband, Shane Michael; great-grandchildren, Chris and wife, Heather, Sharla, Jack, Sabrina, Jordan and Colin; and sisters, Velma Egley, of Vandergrift, and Patricia Mullen, of New Kensington.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Jack N. Silvis, whom she married February 22, 1950 and who died in 1991; grandson, Matthew Silvis; and brothers, Richard Miller and William W. Miller.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at Clark Chapel of the Bauer Funeral Home, 238 S. Main Street, Elderton.

Additional visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Friday, October 7, 2016, at the funeral home, with Chaplain Tom Spiker of VNA Family Hospice Services officiating.

Burial will be in South Bend Cemetery, Shelocta, Pennsylvania.
