V. Deryl Engel
V. Deryl Engel, age 83, of Kittanning, died Sunday, January 31, 2010 at her residence surrounded by her family.
She was born on April 19, 1926 in Salem, OH to George B. and Rosa (Altman) Stowe.
A high school graduate, Deryl furthered her education at the Huron Road Hospital School of Nursing, in Cleveland, OH, where she graduated in 1947 as a registered nurse. Prior to her nursing education, she enlisted in the Cadet Nurse Corps, during WWII in 1944. Deryl had resided in Kittanning for over 48 years and attended the First United Methodist Church, Kittanning. She enjoyed talk radio, working crossword puzzles, reading, and crocheting. Her true passion was her nursing career and raising her children.
She is survived by her husband, Robert L. Engel, whom she married August 6, 1949; two sons, Richard A. Engel and wife Cathy Sue of St. Charles, MO and Ronald C. Engel and wife Colleen of Westerville, OH; two daughters, Catherine L. Engel and Ellen S. Engel, both of Kittanning; three grandchildren, Traci and Benjamin Engel, both of Westerville, OH and Sean Engel of St. Charles, MO.; and one sister, Vivian Hoprich of Salisbury, MD.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Ann Zimmerman.
Friends will be received from 12:30 until the time of funeral services at 1:30 PM, on Wednesday, February 3, 2009 at Bauer Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 515 N. McKean Street, Kittanning, with Rev. Dr. Daniel A. Stinson officiating.
Interment will follow at Kittanning Cemetery, Rayburn Twp., Armstrong Co.
