Kurt Douglas Zimmerman, Sr.

Kurt Douglas Zimmerman, Sr., 71, of Kittanning, PA, passed away peacefully at Butler Memorial Hospital, after a courageous battle with Lymphoma on March 10, 2026.

He was born on April 4, 1954 to Emmett D. "Pinky" and Wanda M. "Dolly" (Visnesky) Zimmerman of Kittanning

Kurt graduated from Kittanning Senior High School in 1973 before becoming a heavy equipment operator for coal companies until 1983. In 1984, Kurt entered the tool and die trade until 2007 and went on to work at Allegheny Ludlum from 2007 - 2015 when he retired. Kurt, in his younger years, enjoyed working his way up through the chairs at the Kittanning B.P.O. Elks. He had the honor of being the lodge's 100th anniversary Exalted Ruler 1991 - 1992. He was proud to become District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler from 2003 - 2004. He was a Grand Lodge Ritualistic Judge from 1989 - 2009 and judged for the B.P.O.E. National Championship in Reno, NV in 2006. Kurt was also treasurer for the West Central District of the PA Elks State Association from 2005 - 2009. Kurt truly enjoyed traveling to Maryland, Delaware, and Washington D.C. while judging rituals as well. He was a State Ritual Chairman, Trustee for the Kittanning Elks for six years, and State Vice President for the West Central District. Kurt became Treasurer of the Kittanning Men's Club in 2017 and carried on his duties until he was diagnosed with cancer in September of 2025. He was a proud lifetime member of the NRA since 1979 and member of the Kittanning Moose 137 since 1994. Kurt was also a member of the Kittanning/East Brady Masonic Lodge 244 and Coudersport Consistory since 1992.

Kurt enjoyed camping at Milton's Loop Campground with his wife and grandchildren as well as hunting and fishing with his children and friends. He enjoyed his daily stop at the Kittanning Men's Club to congregate with members of the club and longtime best friend Dan Dosch.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Allison (Bowser) Zimmerman; his siblings, Diann Flick, Harry Zimmerman (Leslie), and Karl Zimmerman; his children, Kurt Douglas "Doug" (Melissa) Zimmerman, Jr. of Lower Burrell and Kirsten (Sean) Huegel of Butler; daughter-in-law Leah Lloyd; his grandchildren, Acelynn Zimmerman, Alexis Frye, Connor Zimmerman, Duncan Lloyd, Landon Lloyd, and Makenna Zimmerman; and great-grandson, Declan Hanlon. He also leaves behind many loved nieces and nephews.

Kurt was preceded in death by his parents, Emmett and Wanda Zimmerman; his brother, Eric Zimmerman; his son, Nicholas Lloyd who passed away on Oct. 22, 2025; and Elk brothers, James Clawson and James Scahill.

Friends and relatives will be received from 5 - 8 PM on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at the Bauer Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 515 N. McKean Street, Kittanning, PA. An Elks Service will be held at 7 PM and a Masonic Service will be held at 7:30 PM at the funeral home.

Additional visitation will be held from 10 AM until the time of services at 11 AM on Friday, March 13, 2026 at the Bauer Funeral Home with Rev. Carl A. Johnson officiating.

Interment is in St. Mary Cemetery in Ford City, PA.
